I like the way you can see really faint fence marks, and the washed out colours really give that hot and dusty feel to the image. Is that the recently made-inaccessible break over yonder?

you got it perfectly, the heat beating off the land was making everything hazy. but not the recently in-accessible break, this one is accessible for the time being, but could be cut off at any given second. there's actually 2 breaks in this photo. one beach, one point. the beach is the wave in the middle, though it looks nice, it's small and closing out.
