Pike's Place Market B&W by ederemer

Pike's Place Market B&W

I recently spent the weekend in Seattle. I'm working there during the week, but haven't had the chance to stay for a weekend until the last.

When I was post-processing this picture, I really couldn't decide which I like better, the color or the B&W. I think both work, but for very different reasons. The neon red lights dominate the color version, but the black and white has a lot more character.

What do you think?

By the way, Pike's Place market was established in 1907. It's probably the most touristy part of Seattle besides the Space Needle. In the morning when the fisherman return they have the daily fish throwing show. I missed it that morning, but I will make it next weekend as I'm staying over once again.

Seagull at Natural Bridges by ederemer

Seagull at Natural Bridges

A seagull at Natural Bridges State Park in Santa Cruz, California. There used to be multiple bridges on this beach, however one fell severals years ago, so now it should be more aptly named Natural Bridge State Park. The only remaining bridge is in the background.

This is a very close crop of a much wider picture. I took this on a short day trip out to the west side of Santa Cruz. The beach was very busy as it was a beautiful day, and there was a small child who just about to scare this seagull away... Luckily I grabbed the shot. I think I will start shooting more wildlife, but that may require more zoom than my current 18-135mm lens has. Maybe a teleconverter? Has anyone had any luck with that on a Nikkor 18-135?

The Walton Lighthouse by ederemer

The Walton Lighthouse

This is the 2nd lighthouse in Santa Cruz. Not nearly as old as the Mark Abbott Lighthouse on Lighthouse Point, the Walton Lighthouse was built in 2001. Named after a benefactor it sits on the west jetty of the Santa Cruz harbor. At 54 feet above sea level, the tower houses a green light.

I caught the tower as the sun set opposite. It had this beautiful orange glow on it as the white paint reflected the color of the sunset. Tweaked in Lightroom to bring out the colors of the sky and the green band at the top.

The 1st from the 2nd by ederemer

The 1st from the 2nd

Here you can see the first lighthouse built in Santa Cruz originally constructed in 1868. After many changes, the structure you see now was built in 1967 as a memorial to a surfer who died near the original structure.
