A technical failure of some kind meant that we didn't get to see (or hear) this monster fly. It was rather dissapointing since it was one of the reasons that convinced me to go to the airshow but we still got to see it up close.
The last time I saw this was at Yeovilton about 20 years ago and I distinctly remember the sound of this thing trying to rip my insides out while my ears were in pain even though my fingers were poked in them... It was brilliant!! =)

Here is another bit of an F-16 and another thing that fascinates me... not the sound of the afterburners (although that's great too)... but rather the mechanics of the way it changes the shape of the jet nozzles. I have no idea the temperature these things get up to but I am gonna guess it's really damn hot. Not only does it have to not melt and explode but it has to be precisely manipulated under all that pressure and heat. Looking at it in detail I am even more impressed that it works so well.

The unmistakable shape of an F-16 Falcon... well for those people who care about such things =P. That oval shaped air intake under the nose gives this tiny fighter such a distinct character.

The front landing gear of a 'Harrier Jump Jet'. This typifies my love for aircraft tech, it looks complex enough it could be part of a transformer and yet it's strong enough to take the all that weight when it's landing. It makes me wanna use words like 'aweosme' and 'genius', in the same sentense =P

Harrier

I have always been impressed by this machine and I still love the film 'True Lies' a lot because of it (despite it being the rather more icky AV-8B version). As much as the missles wouldn't be able to blow up a bridge like that and the gun ammo wouldn't last anywhere near as long as it did, it's still a great example of how versatile this machine is.
As clever (technically better, easier to fly or whatever) as the F-35 is, it just doesn't have the character that the Harrier did.
