Escalation

love these reflections here

Should be viewed larger | original | My top 100

Sometimes spontaneous shots just work out. I was walking up to Gastown from the Heliport and was struck by the reflections in the metal on this escalator at the Seabus Terminal. To get up to the city from the heliport on foot you have to use the side door on the Seabus skywalk.

I tend to always have my trusty G10 on hand. Quick start-up and great RAW capture. It is a good camera for many applications. The only fail point is low-light performance, and it appears Canon has rectified that with the G11. The G11 has a 10MP sensor whereas the G10 has a 14.7MP sensor. Both sensors are the same physical size. This means the individual sensors on the G10 have to be smaller. The result is larger images but more noise. I will likely be upgrading to the G11, unless Canon wants to send me one for free of course ;-)

Wonderful colors. Was the escalator stopped? I am curious how you did a HDR with no blurring of the fixed points outside the moving environment, especially with a 1/4 shutter speed.
Nice work in any case.

Thanks for the comparative analysis. I was on the verge of buying a G10 just before the G11 was announced. The improvements seem small, and a bit counter-intuitive (bigger is better, right?) but in Canon we trust. I will buy a G11 and the proof will be in the pics. Keep up the fantastic work.
