Magenta Jewels

Magenta Jewels by eclectic echoes.
A macro shot of water beads on the leaf of a decorative cabbage plant. This was shot on a cold, extremely foggy afternoon in downtown Mystic. The sun can be seen in some of the beads of water as it momentarily burned through some of the haze. Taking this shot (and it's mates) drew us lots of stares from the tourists. I think many of the locals are beginning to suspect that I am indeed nuts.

Nothing wrong with "being nuts." Normal people only create such nice images by accident. Stay crazy!

Now why should some drops reflect the sun and others not?

It's a lovely photo, and gives me my next dull day project.

those little pinpricks of orange sun are dynamite with that rich purple. Wonderful stuff, and worth perplexing the locals for.

Eric...free fall is fun!
Small Fry... I am actually finding that the more I perplex the neighbors the more of them I meet and am befriended by. Maybe they should post a requirement at the Chamber of Commerce: "Eccentricity Required for Residency"

Aolima-
This was before I got any of my current lenses. I believ it was with a Canon 75-300mm zoom. I used a couple of extension tubes (a 12mm and 25mm I think...) to get closer to the subject and maintain focus. Basically I was about 1m away from and slightly above the plant. The camera was on a tripod, and the winter sun was behind me (but not casting my shadow on the cabbage).

I used partial metering. This shot had +1EV exposure compensation. I actually took 3 shots of this image and 3 of another section of the cabbage. The three shots were with exposure bracketing (-1EV, 0, +1EV). This turned out to be ISO 100, 15 second exposure at f/18 to get as much Depth of field as possible.

So tht's the technical details...
As to anything else, I keep looking at details, especially in the "boring" spots. Details in a dropped feather, plants (especially on cold frosty days!) in the fog, etc... I love mostly overcast days especially when the sun is just breaking through. I carry a flash and a bounce sheet with me to enhance light also if needed.
