Apple Fritter

Apple Fritter

Made apple fritters last night. They turned out pretty darn good, if I may say so.

One LP120 on minimum power through a SB-III miniature softbox, held above and slightly behind the fritter, and as close as it can be without getting in the frame.

Ice, Governor's Island

Ice, Governor's Island

Ice formation at Governor's Island on the north side of Lake Mendota. These serrations formed under the small overhanging bluff at the tip of the island. Water flowed down from snowmelt above, froze, and then partially melted again, leaving these tooth-like formations.

Taken with a infrared-modified Nikon 8400, but there's no reason you couldn't get the same look with a regular visible-light camera.

Ice Ridge, Governor's Island

Ice Ridge, Governor's Island

Ice ridge at Governor's Island in Lake Mendota. Infrared with a modified Nikon 8400, although in this case you could probably get the same look just by taking the red channel of a color image.

Ice ridges are formed when a frozen lake warms a bit, but not enough to melt. The ice expands and breaks upward to relieve the pressure. They can bulid up at the edge of lakes and get to be pretty large.
