Transparency

Transparency by echolyean.
My attempt at creating a transparent screen. No photoshop was used (other than to crop the image)

How did you do this without editing the image in Photoshop or something similar?

Very carefully ;) I did have to crop the image a bit in Photoshop. But the actual effect itself was achieved by how the pic(s) was taken. I saw someone's pic that was similar to this and I wanted to figure it out myself. I had no idea how they did it. Once I tried it, though, and played with it it was pretty easy to figure out. Although I'm not one to devulge my secrets. ;) Oh, and my Photoshop skills are minimal at best. No way could I (personally) have done that in Photoshop.

Sweeeet! If it were sharper, people would do a double take. Great job... I couldn't have done it better!

Umm, no, it's just the normal calcular that comes with OS X. It's not real (physical), it's the calculator program on the screen. I'm not really holding anything. It's an optical illusion.

Your left hand and right hand don't match (colourwise). The left one isn't real, I think it's an image printed and manipulated ?? Then you point with your right hand and take an image (bweuh, difficult to explain in a language that I do not fully grasp)

It's 3 different shots, but it's all real. As far as image manipulation goes, no - I didn't do any of that. It's all on how the pictures were taken. The final picture taken *click* is what you see (minus cropping of the sides)

Okay kids:
1- take pic of wall and make it a transparent screen
2- put left hand in front of computer like you are holding something, take pic, and put it on your screen.
3- drag calculator in front of left hand (picture on computer), point with right hand, take picture.
4- crop the pic so that you can't see the edge of the computer screen.
5- post on flickr and impress your friends

Well, that explains the lighting difference on your right hand. Better that than a weird skin problem.

ohhhh i see... like mb_0686 said, the whole thing is a image cept for the calculator and the right hand pointing at it. The left hand and background is a photograph... very clever, cept i still dont know why the right border, which should be the real computer screen, doesnt line up with the calculator... unless that's a photograph too, which explains the "3 different shots" you said it was.

thirdopticaltool (a reference to my favorite band, perhaps?)... who said the shot of the calculator and what you *think* is the screen are from the same shot? I said multiple photos were taken; it's in how (what order) they were taken... not in any photoshop that you see the effect.

OK, you took a pic of a lap trop with your left hand in front of it.
Then you brought up that pic on the computer screen. You might have set it as your wall paper
then you started the calculator app on top of the pic
Then you pointed to the pic with your right hand and took a pic of that

Voila
