Great mood. Very interesting how he looks at the bat! The angle is a bit odd as we are looking down on him, but it's not as bad as one might think.

really nice moment captured. Is he wondering if hell ever be tall enough to hold the bat?

Good composition... And good timing, the corporal expression of the boy is interesting. Could crop the picture a little, though.

Cazasco - thinking along your lines, I tried several tighter crops before I posted. But the angle and the large amount of empty space seemed to enhance the sense of the boy's smallness relative to his environment. That's what I was responding to when I took the picture, so I left it like that. (I'm going to delete your note, but thanks for the critique & suggestion.)

Wonderful mood in this shot. I think the crop is fine, you get the size of the kid much more clearly, and all that texture in the wall is great. The way the only bright red in the photo is in his socks... man, you can't plan that stuff. Perfect.

Excellent! I like your caption, too. I'm sure he'll be playing in the big leagues before he knows it. :)

He looks downtrodden. Is his team losing? It's a great experience for him and a great photo.

The shot was taken before the game the started. There were few if any players in the dugout, because they were out on the field for a promotion for fans to meet the players. Although the shot looks melancholy and pensive, the lad was actually very animated. A split second before and after this, he was pacing back and forth, looking downright peeved about something in his thoughts.

I think he's the manager's son.

This is an extremely impressive photograph. I could imagine this in a gallery somewhere. Have you tried it in B&W?

I'm surprised no one has compared this to a work of Norman Rockwell's yet. I really love this shot, and the BW is great too.

Subject would have to be much bigger to be a Rockwell. Since the bat is there to provide scale, I think a tighter crop would give us more to look at. Great light, nice subject. Technically very good. Looks a little stiff. A little posed.

i like everything about it
except, i agree, it could use a tighter crop for maximum impact

For the record... the shot was not posed. I took it as an afterthought, one handed, while passing by the dugout before the game. I'm really quite flattered that a couple of you thought I set up the shot.

Nice shot, but would be much better if it was cropped tighter so that the boy was more the focal point, it's a little too busy for me.

The composition is random, especially the top of the pic, too much space left.

I think it's a great shot and the wide crop works best. In large format, it seems he's not looking at the bat, but contemplating the stuff by his right shoe... is that "chaw"??? Yuck...
For what it's worth, if I were in the Delete me! group, I'd vote this as a saveme!
