An old self portrait, but a major departure for me, as it's the first time I've edited a photo on my iPad for uploading to flickr. The new thing? Or just a pleasant diversion?

All over the UK, petrol stations are closing down, vicitims of the price war that sees supermarkets selling petrol at discount prices to entice motorists into their more profitable superstores. This petrol station is in Haddington, East Lothian.

Shame on you, Tesco, Morrisons, and others - you know who you are.

A beautiful day, a polarizing lens, a cast iron street sign on an old stone wall.

Saltcoats Castle, confusingly, is nowhere near the town of Saltcoats in Ayrshire. Instead, it's just outside Gullane, in East Lothian. Bizarrely it seems to be little known, even though it's clearly visible from the main road.

Another potential difficulty is that it stands on private ground: I brazened it out, going through a locked (but broken) gate to take this photo. But whether access is still possible, I simply don't know.
