Probably worth checking out the reviews of
this book on amazon. It sounds like some
folks are less than enthused with its
content.

Yes, I was aware of the reviews and comments
on this book's "unorthodox
maneuvers". I would not personally do
many of the things described, but I like to
read about them and find the perspective
refreshing. And once I understood the concept
of making like a pedestrian, some of the
complaints of the reviewers that these
maneuvers were dangerous or illegal seemed
not to get the concept. Of course, one's own
judgement is key and that's why we take to
our bikes in the first place rather than
believing the prevailing sentiment that
cycling on city streets is dangerous all the
time.

I have read this book and like it, for the
most part. The critical message here is that
if you are going to bike with cagers, you've
got to have both skills and attitude--both
are as important as the other one. Do NOT do
as he says in two particulars: Do not tell a
cop that a motorist that you diced with
pointed a gun at you; do not use your U-Lock
to break someone's rear window. Those are
what I would call ANTI-survival skills, at
least where I live. Otherwise a good read.
