IMG_2648 - Old and New Generations

This youngster appeared to be the smallest and youngest of the newcomers. She hung out more around the two older females, all that are left of the herd from days gone by. Seven 8-month old little heifers arrived in San Francisco from Tehama County in December of 2011. The paddock, located in Golden Gate Park, is overseen by the San Francisco Zoo and Recreation and Parks Department.

Had to shoot through the fence - the webbing (fence grid) kept getting in my way! Here I was panning to keep them in focus.

IMG_2695 - Exercise!

IMG_2695 - Exercise!

I saw a few of them stumble and bump each other as they ran back and forth. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there are no more injuries or dogs - or coyotes, as some have suggested. These lasses are too young and don't have their parents or relatives or herd members to teach them how to defend themselves. From their size they might not look it, but these are all youngsters. All females, I believe. Best viewed large.
