What's in my iBook laptop bag - for real? With Flickr notes...

4 year old Brenthaven laptop bag that I drag everywhere, every day - a gift from my friend Bob, to go with my first iBook.
Geek Squad 7' Cat 6 cable.
iPod sync/charging cable for Veronica, my 30GB photo iPod.
Stick-on foam shape from one of my pre-school neighbors.
Top: "Crof-tone Records" Bottom: "Ape House Rules!" Buttons from my cousin's band.
81/2x11 Staples legal pad in yellow - my favorite. I get them in packs of 12 for next to nothing.
Apple Care folder. I sent my original G3 iBook back for repairs a few times, so I thought I better keep the transaction notes with me in case of other calls. They fixed it, then replaced it, eventually! (Filed the folder today.)
Expedia travel itinerary from our trip to Wisconsin. The Madison airport is BEAUTIFUL - full of Frank Lloyd Wright designs. It's worth a visit! (I chucked it after this shot.)
A couple of letter from people who wanted to make sure I knew my flaws and imperfections. (Filed them today in my "Skull and Crossbones" file with the rest of my "fan mail!")
USB light that I got from Broadcom for being a Buzz agent for their new (at the time) wireless card. It's great for when your sharing a hotel room and the other person is sleeping!
Screen cleaner cloths. I've had them for about 6-7 months, and I'm still on the first one. Works great.
4 USB outlet extender. Don't usually have to use it, but it's good once in a while - so I carry it. Probably could leave it out. I think I will.
Wireless remote with laser pointer. Why do I still have the instruction manual in here?
Spare batteries for wireless remote. Got to have them when you need them, and you never know when you'll need them.
Buzz Agent stickers.
ReTurn brochure - what I do now. Church restoration and intervention.
Note pad with my name on it. I have a whole box of them from DayTimer. I keep one in here and one in my PDA case.
Three Nortwest Airlines luggage tags. NWA's terminal in Detroit is the best terminal I've ever been in, and that's where we met Dee Snider. Nice!
Sears Optical brand eyeglass cleaner - the best I've found for cleaning the iBook screen, and remarkably less expensive than the stuff at computer stores.
Card reader for my Olympus D-520. Brand X reader, but has worked flawlessly for almost 4 years.
Crunchy Peanut Butter Clif Bar. Absolutely the best quick energy or meal replacement product I've tried. Good taste, all natural, and a company with a conscience.
Fire wire cable.
30' cable for connecting to video projectors. I carry as many means of connection as I can because you never know what's going to be in place when you show up to make a presentation!
S-video cable. I don't care for the quality that it gives, but I have it when that's all I can use.
iPod charger/power source line. The little wind-up wing broke off a few months ago. I wonder if anyone has one that's still intact? Doubtful. Still works, though.
AV connectors for TV.
Note pad from Sheraton Four Points, Hagerstown.
Silver and yellow pencils are from two young friends who asked me to keep them so I'll remember them. I will, and I will. Stadtler ball point pen. Nice, low-tech reliability.
TV AV cables. Use 'em when there's no video projector.
Mac USB - S-Video and AV TV connector.
2 Mac USB connectors for monitor/video projector. One came with the IBook, the other was a gift from my friend Bob, who gave me the bag. I'm sentimental, so I carry both.
Monster Cable for when I have to use dial-up. Hey, every place doesn't have free WiFi access!
My 14" G4 iBook. Apple gave it to me as a free replacement for my G3 after it was repaired a few times. Apple deserves their cult status!
The deck of Club Earl, on the back of my house. One more summer - this one - then I'll have to power wash and refinish it again. Actually, it's kind of a pleasant project, and I like keeping it brown instead of letting it go to weathered gray.
"The Brand Gap." I aways keep a book in the Mac bag. This one's about branding/marketing and design, and the author put it together as a white-board kind of presentation format. It's good!
The shadow of my house - I'm standing in it, just outside the slider door, taking the shot. Sorry, but GPS coordinates are currently unavailable.
Video camera connector cable.
Cat hair, from So-crates. As soon as you put the bag down, it's back on it, But he's a great cat, so it's worth it!
I love design and organizational development - and this book pulls the two together. "How to bridge the distance between business strategy and design."
Little colored rings that go on the Cat 6 cable (I put the orange ones on it.)
This is my 2nd iBook. Apple replaced the motherboard and HD three times under warranty, then the gave me this one as a free replacement after I returned the old one to them. Apple ROCKS!
Sync cable for my Palm Tungsten E PDA.
As George noted, it looks like I carry more cable than Comcast. Guilty as charged, your honor - but this bag has a lot of pockets...
Pilot P-500 pen - my favorite.
I go there on ocassion to get drunk... Go figure?
now you can buy ZAG, the next boof by the same author (Marty Neumeier)

Glad you dug the triangle collage--somebody drunk and rich once tried to buy it off me at a party I had a long time ago--but i resisted!

I'd check out, "Image by Design" by Clive Chajet and I think William Gibson's "Pattern Recognition" though fiction is a great book about brands and cultures...

Hi Matt - nice note add; it always seemed like the best place to stay in Hag-town, but I've never hit the restaurant. The nearby Texas Roadhouse is pretty good, though!

Hi Earl, just had a fascinating tour of the iBook bag, reminded me that I needed to clean my 12" screen .. and a whole bunch of other things.
The ground shifting at TA has made me think a little more seriously about creating a 'Photoblog' - a place to maybe consolidate what I'm doing into one space, and try to focus my enegies. At the moment I'm just looking around at software .. something easy to manage, and I'll possibly aim for something early next year. All the best.

Hi Matt! I like Texas Roadhouse, too. Last time up there we had an excellent Philly cheesesteak at the Denny's near you - the bread was excellent, too. It was a surprise! Richardson's is kind of a nice, homey restaurant with a friendly staff and pretty good classic American food. Hag-town is what it is!

Craziness .That whole lot of stuff.

Macs are quite not popular here in India .Part of the reason is that they are expensive and it is indeed a rare sight to see anybody working on a Mac . I've talked to quite a lot of Americans who swear by Mac,am convinced it must be good.Once I was told a Mac is like your old favorite pair of jeans and it is easier to get into but tough like hell to get out of it :)

i was trying to hover my mouse at the notes trying to comprehend the components.it is nice visual tutorial.

Great shot ,Thanks for sharing

It is very full!

Macs cost more than PC's here, too. but saving for one has been worth it. They are so reliable and easy to use. I told a friend of mine the difference between a Mac and a PC is that you have to work to make the PC do what it's supposed to do, but the Mac works for you, and makes things easy for you.

I like your quote about old jeans - very true!

I'm happy you enjoyed the shot, and the notes. Thank you for adding it as a fave, and enjoy your Flickr time!
