*LOL* When is someone going to just put wheels on a giant bike lock and ride it around? Uh oh, now I am sure I will see that soon ...

Very cool... It would take someone a long time to cut or pick all of those locks!

funny!

To steal the bike though, you only need to break one of the locks. Yet another security solution that does more to inconvenience the owner than the thief.

Someone should work on this with a little more detail, it's a great idea for a sculpture, although I have no idea if that's the original intention.

Brilliant! Must have cost a small fortune for all those U-locks.

it looks like most of the locks are the recalled cylinder mechanism locks that were hit with ball point pens. But its a little hard to tell.

If I had to guess I'd say the artists bike was stolen at MEC, they have a sign out at the bike stands declaring it being a "high bike theft area".

This makes me really sad that someone stole my bike that I spent years saving up for... :( I guess it's sort of funny, but really this sculpture made me cry.

Well, you could get it separated from the rack, but good luck moving that thing. Besides, this misses the spirit of the piece -- the inconvenience of it all is (to me, anyway) much of the point.

After the thief removes enough locks, he would still have to fix the flat front tire!

"This just in, somebody has stolen all the u-locks from a very interesting sculpture in Vancouver... The thieves left the bicycle in place, with a note saying 'the bike's to old...' More on this later on..."

So awesome!!! Here's a simpler variant in the same spirit I saw in Unna, Germany the other day. www.flickr.com/photos/ddunstan/552716845/in/p hotostream/. I think with a bolt cutter someone could make quick work of it ... :(

just a heads up--because some missed the photo caption.

This is an actual sculpture. You can see the weld marks (in the large version) connecting the bike locks.
