James Watt statue

City Square, Leeds. Watt [1736-1819] was a Scottish engineer famous for developing [though not inventing] the steam engine; he also came up with the concept of 'horsepower' and the watt, electrical unit is named after him. This statue was commisioned by Richard Wainwright along with the other statuary in the Square, in 1903.
