The Church That Changed Canadian History 1

North of this point, the corner of Elgin and Lisgar, Elgin is a grand multi-lane boulevard. Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald planned to extend the grand road soutward to the Rideau Canal. Knox Presbyterian owned a "glebe" on all the land from this point south. A "glebe" is a tract of land ceded to the church which may be used to procure economic gain for the church at the church's disgression. (Whewwww!!!!) The Church would not give in and could not be forced, so the grandiose plan for Elgin Street stopped at this intersection. The neighbourhood is now called The Glebe.
