Leopold Figl Denkmal 3
Leopold Figl (1902-1965) had a very interesting carreer in Austrian politics. He was a member of the government under Dollfuss before the Anschluss. He was arrested by the Nazis and spent 1938-1943 in Dachau CC. He was arrested again in 1944, sent to Mauthausen CC and sentenced to death for "High Treason" to Vienna. Somehow he survived and became the first post-war Chancellor of Austria (ÖVP Partei) from 1945 until he resigned in 1953. He remained Foreign Minister from 1953-1959. He then became the Governor of Niederösterreich and died in Vienna in 1965.
