Winding up the giant pumpkin sling shot

Winding up the giant pumpkin sling shot

Adults being kids, what can I say...only in Hollister... Sometimes you catch a moment, but something out of the ordinary ruins it, but then I think, that's how I saw it! Not everything has to be "beautiful", this is when my dear wife starts rolling her eyes in disagreement...

It was a good evening...

Some photos are like wine, they have to age a little to be fully appreciated...

How "not" to drink the water

How "not" to drink the water

one of the many piazzas in Rome with a ever flowing supply of very good water. The proper way to drink from it, is to place the palm of your hand on the end of the pipe to stop the flow, water then shoots out through a peep hole above... clever! Of course, a more stylish way would be to fill your own water bottle instead...
On this upcoming trip to Italy, I am not the least concerned with what clothes to take, but rather what photography gear to take, funny how things change, a balancing act between portability, versatility, risk to theft or damage, etc... love to take the Minolta camera, but the x ray machines will fry the film...stay tuned...

A rare find...

A rare find...

I found this inside the camera bag of my Minolta rangefinder - I had no idea what it was at first. Even for someone half century old, I had never seen anything like it! As it turns out, it is a rangefinder attachment - I suppose for a camera without a rangefinder. It is intriguing because the one in the camera works perfectly. My guess is that the owner had another camera previously, and then"upgraded" to the Hi-matic E. So she knew a thing or two about photography, back when I was probably still in diapers...

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to operate it. It mounts on the flash hot shoe and the dial is rotated until the two images seen through the peep hole become one.

A question for the tinkerers: what purpose do the two slots on the holder serve?
