Big on Black
Think about this, you are having a storm near your house, its very
cloudy and rainy out, lightning is striking fairly close, as there is
not much time between the flash of lightning and the noise of
thunder. You see lightning out of the window and it is scary, but all
you can see from there is what is under the clouds.
Sometimes the monster is larger than it appears

I took about 40 shots of lightning that night, I set my camera up on bulb exposure, f/3.8, and shoot at the clouds that have been lightning-ing. Usually somewhere around 30-45 seconds, but if get a good crack quickly, it might only be 15 sec.
