I saw something unusual while shooting a sunrise at Kerry Park recently and thought I'd share. I've been there more times than I can count and have never seen light like this. Enjoy!

This photo of Punchbowl Falls is a personal favorite from autumn. It was taken at the start of a very productive day in the Gorge, where I managed to visit ten waterfalls while hiking from sunrise until sunset. I started my morning at Eagle Creek and quickly made it to Metlako Falls and then eventually to Punchbowl. As I got set up, the sun started to break through the fog, illuminating the upper part of the scene with a warm, diffused light. Prior to this, I had a couple failed outings due to poor weather so it was nice to start the day with this kind of luck for a change.

This is one more shot from Wahclella Falls, taken from an entirely different angle than that of my previous post. As I searched for compositions, I got drenched by a heavy downpour that lasted for roughly 15 minutes. The rocks were very slick and I slipped and fell once, but luckily saved my camera (all that really counts, right?). As I waded out to a spot in the creek, the sun started to shine through so I quickly found a composition and came away with a shot I liked.

Metlako Falls was the first place I got to in the morning and it was certainly the best place I've been in a long time for starting my day. The fall color looked to be at peak and there was some nice mist clinging to the hillside all morning. I spent nearly half an hour at this spot (and took more than 80 photos) while waiting for the fog to look just right, before finally moving on. I hope you guys find this waterfall to be as beautiful as I do.

While out hiking this past week, I made sure I visited one of my favorite waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge -- Wahclella Falls. The falls and surrounding amphitheater offer a uniquely beautiful scene that allows for many different compositions. All morning I had been hiking and got drenched by heavy rain showers that passed on multiple occasions. I arrived at the falls just after one of these showers had moved through, and runoff from the rain-saturated ground produced an ephemeral waterfall that can be seen on the right side of the frame. Within minutes of taking this photo, fog moved in along with yet another heavy shower.
