Zaha Hadid's models... by Dr Woohoo

Zaha Hadid's models...

I had the pleasure of hanging out with insanely talented Shajay – who works at ZH and teaches at the AADRL of London – while I was in the UK. The word inspiring does not do it justice. The elegant forms they're creating with openFrameworks running within Maya as a plug-in are simply insane.

DepthMaps > Point Clouds > Poly Clouds by Dr Woohoo

DepthMaps > Point Clouds > Poly Clouds

Here's an experiment I'm working on that captures depth map from a ZCam via an openFrameworks app I dev'd (porting the ZCam code over) and then writes those images to the hard drive. I then take those images into Maya via code and... More info on the process during my presentation at FOTB.

Real-time Motion Capture by Dr Woohoo

Real-time Motion Capture

There is a mysterious place I am searching for – figuratively speaking – where artwork becomes aware of its environment, of the people within it and what the person is saying via body language.

How will the artwork behave and adapt itself due to changes within the environment? Will it have it's own personality? How immersive can the experience be for the dancer/audience? What is the foundation for this type of artwork? How far did they take it? These are just a few of the questions I am I curious about.

---

The eyes of the computer are 8 Vicon 2d motion capture cameras and the data is streamed into a custom C++ application using openFrameworks. The application will someday be able to recognize the different gestures of the Laban style of dance in real-time, performed here by the incredibly talented Nara Shedd. Joe Abraham Dean, a master of projected light, is setting up the reflective nodes of the body suit at the ARTS Lab at UNM.

This will eventually become an open-source project, the results of which will be shown at Flash on the Beach in Brighton, UK, which takes place from September 20-23rd.
