Day Fire at Sunset: Day 14

This fire has been burning since Labor Day. In the past day, it has doubled in size and evacuation preparations are being made for areas to the north and east of me. What it does to our area is leave us with amazing sunsets full of ash and smoke.

Thank you all! My specific area is in absolutely no danger. The ones who are concerned live to the north of here and somewhat east -- Ojai and Santa Paula. As long as we can breathe, we're just fine here, and I"m hoping we'll get a weather break or wind direction shift before it burns farther north.

The problem right now is that we have dry, hot offshore winds fueling it...if that shifts to onshore winds the humidity will rise and the temperature will drop and with luck the shift in wind direction would blow the fire back onto already-burned areas.

That's incredible. I live in Arizona (which already has great sunsets) but recently when there were huge wildfires in California, we got some of the most breathtaking sunsets I'd ever seen.

The Lord moves in mysterious ways.

Thank you, everyone! This morning the smoke had retreated to the hills to the east, but the weather conditions haven't changed so it's likely we'll see another smoky afternoon. I hope the firefighters are doing okay -- that's a rough place to be fighting a fire. :)

Glad to read that your situation is stable although still sounds precarious.

This image is absolutely amazing. The muted sun casts quite an ominous image in the sky.

      Stay safe!

Thanks, everyone! Today's clouds are wild -- the smoke is lurking to the east in great big smoky puffs that spread across the city. :)

Wow, the sky and colors in this are amazing! It's too bad that a fire is what is causing this.

Another great shot! Love the color saturation you're getting. My photos of the sunset should be similar; I think we live down the street from you, in the apts behind constituion park.

Fantastic image! Fortunately, today we are getting rain and with the containment already in place, we may soon see the end of this beast.

Amazing shot, even though the Day Fire was awful (or so I heard from my parents, I'm in SD for school now).
