Smoky sunset (Day fire, day 13)
The smoke from the Day Fire in Castaic blows over toward the ocean in the afternoons. Today it was especially bad, leaving half the sky looking like the holocaust had just occurred. It's a nice one to viewlarge, on black

Very cool. I had to go out and shoot this smokey sky yesterday, too. Love how you got a starburst around the sun.

Thanks to you all! Wow!
Tonight's sky was not quite as spectacular -- the smoke is rollng across the entire sky now taking out the contrasting blue.
I sure hope they can knock this fire down soon. :)
@dreamscape pictures -- we are not in near this fire or in any danger of being in its path. There really would have to be a holocaust for a brush fire to get to our house -- we're smack in the center of town.
We just get the schmutz. :(

awesome hdr. great capture.
i forgot to close my garage door last night, and we got ashes all over.
KaroliK (70 months ago | reply)
Thank you, jhc, jude, chino's art and photofool!
@photofool -- it's really bad here today. We did a car wash (LOL) for the Irish dance school this afternoon and had ashes raining on the newly-washed cars -- yech.
I have another photo that I took tonight where the sky is just awash in ashes...it makes for amazing sunsets but I'll take clear skies again any day.
They're evacuating east and north of us....hopefully they'll contain it before it gets that far.

I've been watching a similar thing from Simi Valley. We had ash rain a few days ago. This is a really beautiful image of such a scary thing. Nicely done.
