52 Weeks 2012: Week 4: Extreme Detail

Friday night I participated in the 9th annual "Rogues and Renegades 24 Hour Theatre Festival". Here's what happens: at 10pm Friday night, writers, directors, actors and stage managers show up and introduce themselves, and they each bring a prop and costume piece. Then at 11, everyone except the writers leave.

The writers then cast their plays from the pool of actors, and they spend the rest of the night writing a 10-15 minute play, potentially using any of the props and costumes that have been brought in.

At 7am, the directors show up and get a random script. The stage managers show up 30 minutes later and randomly get a director. And the actors finally show up at 8am. Then rehearsals begin.

At 7:30pm Saturday night, the shows begin. And by 10pm, only 24 hours later, six new plays have been written and performed.

In the past, I've been able to direct and act. This last Friday, I finally got a chance to write! The picture above is a very tired, whacked-out me with the costume piece that most inspired my play. My cast and director exceeded my expectations, and they are encouraging me to expand it into a 30-60 minute one-act play.

This picture was taken a little after 6am, my play already in the can, feeling pretty loopy.

I'm still sorta basking in the glow of an idea made reality. And in only 24 hours. :)

Teleidoscope Week 3: Movie Star

My friend Mandy graciously allowed me to photograph her for this week's theme. There was some lovely bokeh in the frame, but I had to eliminate it because it ended up being too distracting. :( I brought it back, because Flickr Sharpening was ruining the hell out of my edit. So I went back to a basic look, plus the bokeh. :)
