Flickr Loves Sushi. Mmm.

I've never had my photographic work chosen for use in any regard before, so I'm quite thrilled and deeply humbled to be included, even in a small way, in the continued development of this site. I've made so many good friends since being here, and I am continually floored by the talent and creativity that exists on Flickr.

After suffering with panic and anxiety attacks for the past 3 years (since being out of full time work), my esteem and confidence has basically been knocked down to zero. Every comment you leave picks me up a little and helps to pull me out of my malaise. Your photos inspire me each day, and encourage me to do better. Your kind words validate me as an "artist," and prove to me that I can do good work.

So, thank you all.

And thank you Flickr.
I love being a part of this community.

No no no...you are a brilliant photographer. Your work isn't merely good. It's goddamned amazing. By all rights, your work should make me feel horrible about mine, since I'm nowhere near as good as you are. However, instead of making me wanna quit, it inspires me to see if I can come close to your talent.

I'm not surprised at all that your image was used - it's beautiful!

(I've been SO sick, but I can move around and breathe and stuff now, so I'll be around more).

Hey just saw your comment on my shot, GREAT ONE!!!! It took me about 15 tries to hit the drop perfectly in the center (not that it mattered since I cropped it the way I did) then a friend was looking at it and hit the table it was on and bam perfect ripples every time. DAMN I hate when I miss something like that.

Just wanted to add my appreciation for your photos as well. Your details (and your sushi) and so often sublime.
But wanted to say as well that this photo (and the comments it has spawned) really show what flickr is all about.
I think most of us often doubt our work, and although I'm a newish flickrer, I've appreciated so much the support and encouragement that I've gotten from so many people here. You are one of the "invisible friends" that I value most here. Your words on my photos are always so kind and thoughtful. You really "get" it. And I see your words on others' work and know that you "get" them too. What a valuable part of this community you are!

And your own work (such as this amazing photo) -- always excellently done, always pushing me to do more with my own work. (And you give me the best belly laughs! Jeff Goldblum getting lucky is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen here.)

I feel for you with the anxiety the unemployment has brought you. When I lost my last job due to the hard hit that non-profits took after the economy went to sh*t, I really spiraled into a lot of negative thinking. It's impossible not to, I think. Even though I was extraordinarily fortunate to find another job rather quickly, the negative thoughts still continue from time to time.

It's been 2.5 years since that happened, and just getting really into photography in the last 6 months has brought me a joy I didn't know I could have. People like you have just added and added to that joy for me.

Thank you thank you thank you for the boosts that you give me, and for the boosts that you give this place in general. If this were the old days of patrons and I were some wealthy feudal lord, I'd sponsor you to do what you do.
