Dallas, Tex. - Ambulance Service Co. of Dallas 1957
In 1957, a corporation headed up by W.H. (Bill) Pierce, founder of Morticians Supply Co. of Dallas (now Pierce Chemicals) opened a new emergency and non-emergency patient transfer ambulance service in Dallas called Ambulance Service Co. of Dallas. Photograph from the James F. Moshinskie Historic Photograph Collection
In this picture, Gordon K. Allen, left, presents the keys to the new handsome fleet of white 1957 Cadillacs to Gordon Campbell, center, of Morticians Supply Co. of Dallas, who was the manager of the new ambulance service, while Ralph Muter, left, regional manager for Superior Coaches, looks on.
The ambulance service operated until late 1959, then closed. It was believed the Dallas funeral homes wanted a graceful way to back out of ambulance service and would let this company eventually take over the calls and win the city contract, but this did not happen.
