Maybe I should not have done this, but this is what I did to get my new furnace installed quickly: The sales dude came over on Monday night. I agreed to let the installation dudes into my house at 8 a.m. on Monday, and I left for work at about 8:45 a.m. This means I left them alone in my house for hours while I was at work, and they agreed to lock the doors behind them. I'm not sure if this was a smart move, but I did it. It was the sales dude's idea. He said it was for my convenience, and all of the company's employees have had criminal background checks, and if anything was wrong or missing at my house when I got home from work, then the company would cover it. It definitely was convenient to get to have the furnace installed while I was at work and to come home to a working HVAC system (and cooler house!) Thanks for this info! I do change the furnace filter regularly. :) The previous owners of the house did not, which is why I've had too much trouble with the original HVAC system and had to replace many of the component on the early-ish side.
