Brooklyn Bridge over Empire Ferry Park.
View of the Brooklyn Bridge from inside the Tobacco Warehouse at the Empire Ferry Park in DUMBO. Cambo 4x5 with 90mm Super-Angulon on Fuji FP-100B instant film.
This was a learning experience. I acquired a 4x5 Cambo rail view camera from a friend Thursday and have been chomping on the bit to take it out. One of the backs was for polaroid pack film which thank the heavens was for the smaller format pack film, not the full sized 4x5 pack film ($10/10 sheets vs. $30/10 sheets).
This was a good thing as I went through 7 pieces of film in a series of mishaps. First I put the front element onto the rail backwards and became frantic when I discovered the camera would not focus. After figuring this one out I put the camera back together, got everything going and then and started shooting severely overexposed shots one after another. Finally it dawned upon me that I had forgotten that instant film is a positive, not a negative and I needed to decrease my exposure, not increase it.
Finally I started shooting well exposed polaroids and decided to start mucking around with the tilt and swing. Just to be kinky.
That's when I discovered that a wide angle lens has the elements very close together and the bellows wouldn't allow the camera to flex properly. They're made out of stiff cardboard and are really meant for longer lenses where the bellows would be fully extended, allowing for flexibility but retaining enough rigidity to not droop and block the light. I have a bag which is a soft leather bag for wide angle lenses which allows full movements at close quarters. Which I left in a box, in my apartment, with a tear it in. Where it would do me no good.
As I said, its a learning process.
