An Interactive Graphic from May 1996
Did some digital crate diving of my archives and found my first interactive graphic from May 1996 which was published on ChicagoTribune.com. Produced in Macromedia Director and published in a pre-Flash plug-in called Shockwave, this interactive feature mapped the regional phone company's coverage and charted their revenue over 10 years . You probably noticed the extremely pixelated graphic as we had to adhere to the 16-bit color requirements to keep the file-size down.
I put this movie up here for shear posterity considering these pages are poorly archived on the site and the web. And in those days, all of these early web pages were hand-built without a content-management system. I screen captured this as a movie file since most browsers will not have the Shockwave plug-in. But if you do indeed have Shockwave, check out the online interactive version.
