Highway 19 between Cannon Falls & Red Wing
I decided to head out a little late on Saturday after a spotter called in a funnel near Gaylord, Minn.
This system caught everyone by surprise a little bit, so I didn't get a great jump on the storm and ended up having to race around it as I headed south on Highway 51 out of St. Paul.
And I barely beat it, running into extremely heavy rain and some small hail somewhere between Hampton and Cannon Falls. I stopped for a few minutes once I was clear of the heavy stuff and observed some low-hanging clouds, but not much in the way of rotation.
Then, I realized I was low on gas, so I continued to Cannon Falls, put in six gallons and headed east on MN Highway 19, where I was followed by chaser John Wetter.
The highway was tracking beautifully with the storm, so followed it all the way to Red Wing, where it started to lose steam.
We both stopped on the side of the road there and I ran up in the rain to introduced myself. John's vehicle is pretty sweet - mounted radar, live web cam, etc.
After that I took a left on Highway 61 and headed back home. On the way back I saw a lot of leaves down and some standing water around Miesville.
