stephanie and i loved these kids. we first met them in panajachel. they were selling magnets on the street at night and asked if they could have the food that we had not finished eating in a restaurant. we agreed and later saw luis (in the middle) sitting on a filthy sidewalk and crying. we never quite figured out why he was crying but understood that it had something to do with not selling enough magnets. stephanie ended up buying them chicken tacos (three for 10 quetzals), and they told us they would be at the market in chichicastenango the next day, so we planned to find them there.
when we did, i bought many magnets from them, and they asked if we would buy them lunch by asking, "un pollo para mi?" they ate their french fries but took their fried chicken with them in plastic bags for dinner. edgar (on the right) is holding the magnets that they sell in his left hand.
