Elephant birds

safari in the Angorogoro Crater in Tanzania Africa. The birds follow the elephant because the pressure created when the elephant steps forces insects out of the ground and the birds eat them.

I've found it very hard to photograph egrets, they're so while they tend to get "blown out" so they're pure white with no details. Great photo.

I feel like i can connect with these birds. The elephant resembles a leader and the egrets resmble the followers. I hate you brady.

    12. Llesor (65 months ago | reply)

Kyle is a follower. What if the elephant takes a crap or takes a piss? Save the world Brady!

Excellent appealing shot. But are the birds waiting for you know what.....?

    16. BradenJ.T. (64 months ago | reply)

no =) the birds follow the elephant because the pressure created when the elephant walks forces up bugs and worms out of the ground and they eat them

First of all, I have to say that this photo is fantastic. It will be an instant fave. Why do Iike it so much? There are contrasting colours, especially the green and the white work very well together. There are contrasting subjects, the big elephant and the little white birds. Despite all these contrasts the photo leaves a harmonious feeling because of the giant and the cuties just walking down the road together. Last but not least, I really like the framing of this picture, the green leaves make a nice frame. Very well composed!

      Expertly done!
This is a very interesting subject to start with, but on top of that, it is very well executed.
The foint of focus is smack on the elephant's backside (great detail there too, by the way) and the slightly blurry background makes sure the main subject isn't lost in the detail behind it.
As Antje has said, the leaves on either side help with the composition. It feels like there could be jungle forever on the left and the right and this is a tunnel through it all.
The only thing I'd change is that road. I understand you have to work with what you are given but the vehicle track sort of spoils the effect for me. If this was a worn out trail covered in leaves and fallen branches this would be just magic.
