moving on...

    Newer Older

since Our #1 has moved back to old blighty, her bedroom was just an empty room.
so this weekend knowing my soul sister was coming to stay i set about making a place for guests to rest their weary heads.
all the things were collected from around the shed and despite it being a bit of a jumble of things, i feel most happy with the little space that will greet visitors who stay at the shed
    and most excitedly of all,
Our #1 when she returns for a visit this christmas :)

What a change to your life! it is so good to witness this in your stream! I am still far from this because mine are 5, 7 and 9. But they wanted to change rooms and with every room redo they grow up so much. Not that I don't want them to. I am looking forward to them as older children but it also hurts my mother heart a tiny bit. I am currently following your example and crocheting a comforter for my girl with all my love.
Thank you for all the inspiration!

yvonne, thank you kindly for your words.
i am so delighted to hear you are crocheting a blanket for your daughter... i finished my one off this summer and left it behind in old blighty for when Our #1 arrived. since then she has it wrapped around her every time we skype! that action alone speaks a thousand words for me :)

I love the stool with the blankets on it and cushion - I might have to steal that decorating idea... ;)

Tif, I just ADORE what you have done with this space. It is so clever and do-able for anyone, and looks pretty too :) I can relate to how you (and you, Yvonne) feel about your children growing up. I am not looking forward to the day when my kiddies fly the nest. I love them being the ages they are now. Lili is 7 and Lachlan is 8.5 and they are such a delight. I too look forward to meeting the grown-ups that they will become, but every now and then we will be doing something together (like going out for ice cream) and I will remember that in 20 years we will not be doing that anymore as they will be all grown up and have left home, and I can't help but feel a little melancholy. But, all we can do is grab hold of those moments and hold on tightly to them, huh? How fleeting life is!

I too have been making a crocheted blanket. The pics are in my Flickrstream. I did write up a blog post on it but I lost that blog (boo, Blogger!) and have not re-done it for my new blog. Mine is stripey, in all the colours of the rainbow! But I am yet to finish as it is very big (queen-sized). I live in Australia and it is getting very hot already here, so I think I may have to finish it off next Winter. I began crocheting it in May, inspired by you too Tif :) Keep up your lovely work and inspiring home decorating :)

Such a wonderful space, you might have difficulty getting your visitors to leave! But maybe that was the idea? ;)
May I ask where the gorgeous artwork is from?

      Love this room!

And I nearly fell off my chair when I saw your wallhanging. I have a nearly identical framed needlepoint piece that I found at the Salvation army.

      oh thank you my lovelies!!!

karen, delighted you are blanket making!
and delighted you are taking the time to remember what is important for you and your family.. time goes by so fast, and when they are young it truly is a special time!
as they get older, some days can be most tricky indeed. but in the end when they are all grown up, it is lovely to become friends and step back a little.
watching them take their first steps into living away from the nest. knowing, they know, you will always be there when a hug or a kind word is needed...
