I simply loaded SF and London into Google
maps, and zoomed them into the same scale -
both to the 10k mark on the scale to be
exact.
As it turned out, because one is Navteq and
the other Teleatlas the scales were slightly
different so I imported them into Photoshop,
worked out the pixel sizes of the 10 scale
and resized one of the maps down by that
percentage to get an equal 1:1 fit.
Then I simply selected the water around San
Fran and placed it on top of the map.

That's pretty handy, in my head SF is smaller
than that. I guess that's the wide roads and
cheap cabs phenomenon at work.

Actually that makes me feel SF is much bigger
than I thought. Riding the cable car from
market to fisherman's wharf - i never
realised that was the equivalent of east of
the City to Kensignton.
