Santa Croce

Santa Croce in Florenz ist mit ihren vielen Grab- und Denkmälern sowie zahlreichen bedeutenden Kunstwerken einer der eindrucksvollsten Sakralbauten Italiens. Mit 115 m Länge und 38 m Breite ist sie die größte Franziskanerkirche. Das Innere hat die Form einer dreischiffigen Pfeilerbasilika mit einem offenen Holzdachstuhl und einem geraden Chorabschluss. Der Kirchenbau begann 1295 und wurde (bis auf die Fassade) 1443 fertig gestellt.

Santa Croce in Florence, with its many monuments and graves and many important works of art, is one of the most impressive religious buildings in Italy. With 115 meters long and 38 meters wide, it is the largest Franciscan church. The interior has the form of a three-aisled basilica with pillars, an open timber roof and one straight final chorus. The church began in 1295 and was finished (except for the facade) in 1443.

Rainy evening at Santa Croce

Die Franziskanerkirche Santa Croce in Florenz an einem regnerischen Abend. Der Grundstein für die Kirche wurde 1294 gelegt. Der Bau dauerte bis 1385. Die Fassade wurde endgültig erst von Nicola Matas 1863 fertig gestellt.
