Saute some lardons in the bottom of a cast-iron pot. Once cooked, add chopped potatoes to coat with fat. Add sliced onions and a few cloves of garlic and stick in the oven at 200 C.

Make a white sauce. Once thickened, add some chopped hard cheese (I have no idea what cheese I used, since it was someone else's leftover). Reserve some cheese to sprinkle on top of the casserole.

Pour sauce over potatoes and mix. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top. Cook uncovered until potatoes seem done (40 min?). Broil the last few minutes to get crust.
