They're these weird over sized bricks I've had for a while... got them on eBay. They were listed as a store display item but I've never seen them before. They're marked "©1998 Made in Italy for The LEGO Group" on the inside.

If they're the same ones I think they are, they're going for about a hundred bucks on Bricklink. Do a catalogue search for 'display' and scroll down a ways. Though those ones are from 1995.
