Thank you all for your wonderful comments -
very much appreciated. Not sure if I can taketoo much credit for the composition - an element
of luck there in terms of where I happened to
be standing as I waited for the train to
arrive. But I was rather pleased with how well the photograph
turned out. :)

I love it, but I wish there were a more
visible train coming. That cut-off person is
quite distracting.

Thanks for the comments, neatlysliced.
Genuinely fascinated by the illustration of
how we all see the same things slightly
differently - for me, one of the key aspects
is the lack of any visible train, and while I'm aware of
the cut-off person, it's not something I
thought of as a distraction as such. I'll
think on that one for future photos.
I did consider cropping the image to get
rid of the "cut-off" person, but
that put the girl farther down the platform
right at the edge of the shot and lost much
of the light on the right of the image - just
didn't look right. I guess I've looked at
the picture so many times now I hardly notice
the cut-off person any more. :)
Not relevant to whether this is a good or
bad photo, but before I took this shot, the
person on the right walked up the platform
and stood smack bang in front of me making
any photograph impossible without me moving.
But at that time in the morning, if you've
managed to secure a prime spot at the front
of the platform just where you know a train
door will be positioned when the train
arrives, you don't give it up lightly! :) So
I simply waited and hoped, and eventually
they moved back a bit and I took a few
photographs, this one included.
Perhaps that's one of the things that
divides the true "photographer"
from the "person who enjoys taking
photographs" - I guess a dedicated
photographer would have moved in order to get
the perfect shot, and never mind that they
would then be at the back of the queue to get
on the train when it arrived. :)

there's no such thing as a 'good or bad
photo', just opinions. neither is there a
difference between a 'true photographer' and
a person who takes photos. in my opnion. :)

Heh...I've got a few photos on my PC which
I'd classify as "bad" and I'm
fairly sure most would agree! :) But I know
what you mean brendadada, and of course
you're right. It was my shorthand for
indicating that I don't expect the background
to how the photo was taken to influence how
anyone might vote on it - that should be
based on their opinion of the photo itself.
And all opinions are interesting. :) And the
"true photographer" thing - more
verbal shorthand on my part I think. My
definition of that is someone who puts
getting the "perfect" shot at the
top of their list of priorities, as opposed
to someone like myself who is more inclined
to rate getting a seat on the train on my way
to work in the morning as a slightly higher
priority than getting that elusive
"perfect" photo. :) Nothing angsty
about that - problems only arise when people
equate their skill or ability in doing a
particular thing with their worth as a
person. Big mistake, and one I used to make a
lot. But not any more thank goodness. Anyway
that's quite enough philosophising from me
for one morning I'm sure! :)Standing in the
middle of Paddington Station doing this on my
mobile isn't quite what I need to be doing
right now! Thank you all for the comments and
the votes (both ways!). Will be back later!

Am I too late? I love it too :o)
I'm glad you can't see the train coming -
it gives it more tension.

dms, I see your feeling with having no train.
I agree, that is a more powerful feeling.
However, I feel that if that was your desired
effect, you should pan over a little bit a
make the people slightly more obvious.
That person is just so gosh darn
distracting. I think cloning her/him out
would be better than cropping.
Since this was posted before 40 members, I
allow it in Archive with its 5 votes.

Hey, thank you, neatlysliced! I was thinking
that with the group membership tipping over
40, I'd have to wait and see if I could get
10 votes to get it into the Archive. :)
And thanks for your suggestions - I'll
definitely keep them in mind.
So little photo, off to the Archive with
you! Thank you all.
Of course, I've just realised that, having
submitted first what I reckon is probably my
best photo at the moment, the only way to go
now is down unless I can take another one as
effective as this one. lol!

Está bien :) I did the same thing with the
original DeleteMe! group - submitted my best,
and now everything since then has been
dismal. Such is life.

Crikey! I just discovered that this photo is
bubbling around in the top 10
"interestingness" group for 9
November 2005. I was wandering around,
browsing and exploring (as you do on here),
and suddenly stumbled across it - must
unexpected, but I have to admit rather
gratifying. :)
[Edit: oops! Of course I meant to say 9
December 2005, not November.]

It's a nice frame, to be sure, however, I would liked to have seen better color
depth - I can see red/green dots in the fog.

Fair enough, Sbocaj. Taken with a 1.3
megapixel phone camera, and in low light
conditions, it does tend to produce a grainy
image. In this image though, that worked
with the mist to create the overall look and
feel of the image.
