Instant Ancestors

Instant Ancestors

Now we are three, we thought it was time for an official family portrait, so in the gaps between sleeps and feeds, we assembled the most authentic historical scene we could muster, set the self timer and kissed our smiles goodbye!

While Asher appears as a ghostly smear, he's wearing an authentic knitted bonnet and is wrapped in a nappy.

Tweaked in iPhoto, then made olde worlde with the help of labs.wanokoto.jp/olds

Cracker

Cracker

The Food Forest has recently starting selling assorted nut crackers, and Graham and Annemarie Brookman gave me one of their entry-level bolt-action gadgets to test. Our kitchen cupboards had been filling with almonds and walnuts in the shell that, despite a few attempts with a meat tenderising mallet, had finally defeated us.

No longer! With this sucker our almonds and walnuts didn't stand a chance, although over-enthusiastic technique did shower our living room with shell shrapnel.

urban agriculture...

urban agriculture...

...or the memory of it. An olive grove in Adelaide's eastern parklands. 9.00pm on a March public holiday evening, the sounds of the festivals drift through the trees, and there's the occasional flash of headlights in the shadows below the canopy.

A photograph from Adelaide's southeastern corner, taken for submission to the Box Factory Community Centre's 'South East City Stories' project.
