Located in Queens, NY. An all Catholic Cemetery that is so large it is divided into four separate cemeteries. There are over 3 million souls interred in the overall combination of the four cemeteries. I shot 3 rolls of 35 mm., 1 role of medium format 120 film, and also used 2 digital cameras. But I feel that I barely scratched the surface of the quantity of work that one might find in Calvary. I can't wait to go back.....

First bunch is looking really good, Dollymae. Have to ask, so you know why so many of these things are headless. Is it vandals or something?

Well Kaysue, knowing how New Yorkers are, I would be inclined to say yes, vandalism runs rampant.... and that is a such a shame. For some reason I saw less of this in Green-Wood Cemetery, which is in Brooklyn. But Green-Wood was designed by Olmsted, the great architect who designed Central Park, and other famous cemetaries for the rich. I believe that the non-profit foundations who work towards the preservations of such park-like cemetaries, are more active in their restoration efforts, than the Archdiocese of NYC. They are the owners of the 4 Calvary's, which are strictly Catholic only cemeteries. With so many millions of graves to maintain, I think they have a harder time keeping up with things. Besides all of the Calvary's are still active, and people continue to be buried there, keeping the workers quite busy.

Thanks, Mr. Ducke. And I am still not finished. I really got a lot of material using 4 camers. I feel like I only scratched the surface. My advice to you, or anybody else that ever gets a chance to hit Calvary, while in NYC- make Calvary 1 your TOP priority. I only managed to spend time in Calvary 3 for a day.... and by the time I got to Calvary 1, I only had something like an hour and a half, because my ride had to go somewhere. In hindsight, I would have reprioritized.
