First Cup June 21, 2009

The wedding was beautiful. We made our way over to Carneros, which is this area that borders the southeast corner of Sonoma and the southwest corner of Napa. We arrived a little early and ended up parking in the main lot, discovering only later that they wanted us to move the a car into an adjacent field.

That done we made our way down to the ceremony site. Sean and Haley are both involved in the food and wine business so the quality of faire was on display. The Roli Roti truck was there, doing rotisserie meats. The smells from the cooking meats were mouth-watering. Then the groom and his party came down. We took pictures and hung out for a while. Then they wanted us to sit for the ceremony. Apparently some road hazard was delaying both guests and bride, but soon enough things were underway. Their vows were short and sweet with a brief musical interlude by the band, playing a piece Sean had composed for the occasion (he being a jazz guitarist).

Then we broke for cocktails and snacks while photos were taken. Then we sat for dinner. Unfortunately the breeze picked up. Typically it's hot in that neck of the vineyards this time of year, but the breeze kept up and soon they had to ferry down blankets from the house.

During the speeches, the host built small bonfires which were quickly surrounded by folks seeking warmth. Then the band kicked in and people were dancing. A good time for sure.

We brought some wine home from the party with Sean's permission. He's a wine salesman by profession and the selections for the evening were superb. I was driving so the few tastes I had were awesome.

This morning we're kicking it in Sebastopol. Doobie's mom whipped up a breakfast of bacon and eggs while Doobie made scones. A gift for Father's Day. They're digging the Los Chocones


It's so nice out, I think we'll stay for the afternoon.
