angel in the kitchen

    Newer Older

My friend Angel has endured plenty in this new kitchen. And the installation of this small piece didn't go so smoothly. That's because the wall bows out a bit in the center. I can handle concave, but it's hard to get the edges to stick to the wall when the center is out too far.

So I did the best I could, and I'll go later and install some tile strips around the mosaic, to frame the piece better and keep water from being able to get behind the bottom of the mosaic.

I think it'll be OK. As long as it doesn't come crashing down after a few hours.

For installation, I used a super-duper Liquid Nails construction adhesive, but I'm not crazy about that line of products. I ran out (I can't believe I emptied a whole tube on that wall!) and had to use whatever else I had in the truck. But we're cool.

I even painted the wall where the adhesive stained it brown.

It's beautiful. Congratulations on a job well done, Lelie.

      Seen in my contacts' photos.

Having followed this project through from your initial conceptual drawing, read your descriptions of the process, studied the steps of your efforts, I am so impressed with the result. The ability to put it all together and pull it off, no matter what, is rare. You have talent.

And by the look of that grin, we're not the only ones impressed.

I think she likes it. She said the photos didn't do it justice. But she's laughing because she had no clue I was going to take her picture, and she thinks she's having a bad hair day.

      Thank you! I'm bowing. :)

The other job is going to get screwed into place at the same time, so that it fits flush. I can't take any chances.

Thank you. I'm saying this separately because you are a newbie, but I'll go back to treating you like a regular person soon. ;)

I set up a flickr account just so I could comment on this one. (That's my bad hair/outfit so I feel entitled!)

This mosaic is fabulous! Even cooler in real life. Obviously, Leslie is incredibly talented.

I keep finding myself stopping to admire the crowns - makes me want to mix a drink!

Can't wait for the Tree of Life to complete the set in our new kitchen!

madlawave Now THAT is the coolest thing ever. Thanks so much! And I was admiring your pants (I am a sucker for grey) and thinking how I wished I could look that good on a bad hair day.

I'm looking forward to finishing the Tree. But Beth thinks you ought to do the rest of that wall where you're standing.
