YouTheDesigner_Doggendorf

YouTheDesigner_Doggendorf by Dog&Dwarf.
Poster Designed for YouTheDesigner's poster contest. This is for the typography round.

Contestants were given a font and texture list, copy and dimensions. The rest is up to the imagination.

This poster is retro design (Goudy's era) meets contemporary design. The framed grid mimics a time line. The type takes on a current form of call outs, but sticks to the good old grid. The photo texture represents the dotted grid typographers used and still use to sketch and develop type. The texture and color palate emphasize an early 1940s feel, but allows a feeling of current design trends in texture and form.

I think this design is good - it's very balanced, alignment is consistent and I think the colors you chose are interesting. But for a competition - I think it could use something that accelerates it - maybe challenges the reader. Just my couple cents.

Interesting comment, I believe that having direct communication and an abstract concept are the strength of the piece. The challenge is in the hierarchy of the type, and the emphasis in the words.

This design is the result of a piece of art and a print ad having a baby.
Ultimately the winner will be designing a print ad, so I kept that in mind from the start.

Wow, really interesting how much you thought about this. Every little detail makes sense :-)

One little critique: I really don´t like the colors (I know they are the right choice in this context, but it just doesn´t look good.).
