This is one in a series of photos I took while driving home from teaching a class at UC Santa Barbara on Highway 126 East to Santa Clarita, CA during the early morning hours of July 21, 2010. Surprisingly I just used my trusty, but painfully outdated Olympus Camedia C-3020 camera (which I've had since 2003). For whatever reason, I suspect the movement of the car plus my having slightly increased a setting that makes the photos darker or lighter in the camera which might have enhanced the luminosity, the result was the dazzling effects you can see.
