This piece of infrastructure blocking up the waterfront is a private drive specifically for guests at the White Swan hotel at the other end of the island. The White Swan is kind of a big deal as one of the first big projects of the 1980s, but the details sort of escape me. Anyway, I actually don't entirely mind the way this private flyover impacts the riverfront; it frames the view in an interesting way, which is helpful since there's nothing of any great consequence directly across from Shamian Island. But we've established my fondness for getting under bridges. The impact of a lifetime of internet trolling, perhaps.

It's easy, on such intensive trips as ours, to lose the motivation to stay in one's exercise regime. Thankfully, the Guangzhou government at some point went through a program of providing streetfront exercise equipment.

Our last Cantonese dinner! It was, of course, delicious... as it always was when we entrusted Alex and Chen with ordering things.
