We were quite alarmed to notice this beautiful Celtic cross adorn with three swastikas. This stone most likely predates WW2, though. I can't be for certain, though, as this stone has no dates.

Yes, the swastikas are unusual. No
information at all on the stone?

The only information on the stone was the
family name. No dates. No first names. The
only thing near it with the same family name
was from like 1911, but it was a stone all on
its own. We actually found one other Celtic
cross with a swastika in its design, but it
was a bit more stylised than these three

This is an awesome and wonderful cross, Doc,
and a fab image too. Swasticas predated the
Nazi's of course. they just glommed onto it
as a cool design. Hitler apparently wanted it
to represent the "struggle of the Aryan
man", but he meant evil. You even see it
in Native American Culture, but I think the
arms go counter clockwise. Swasticas have
been around about 3000 years or so, maybe one
of the oldest known symbols, and could be
found in China, Japan, India, even Greece.
Although the Nazi's used it to murder
millions and it became the symbol of evil,
the word actually comes from ancient
sanskrit, meaning (ironically) "to be
good". For Buddists and Hindu's it is
still a symbol of good, but the Nazi's sure
screwed it up for the rest of us.

I have used your photo on a new website about
the spiritual origins of the swastika:
www.reclaimtheswastika.com/photos/
Is that OK or would you like me to remove
it? Thanks, Prem.

Of course, premasagar! I'm honored!
And I don't know how I managed to miss
replying to you two, Zzzzt and Rexton!
I've added it to the Celtic group, Rex, and
Zzzzt, you're absolutely right. It's really
fascinating how a symbol that has seen so
many thousands of years and so many cultures
will be remembered by most only for the deeds
of one evil person's perverse ideals.

not so unusual as supposed...the suastica is
related to hitler just after he used it...but
was in use in ancient indian culture, and of
course without any reference to
nazism......In fact it has tha same motif,
the cross, with a difference the suastica has
MOTION/MOVEMENT added...
