JIMI HENDRIX - VARIATIONS ON A THEME: RED HOUSE
    Title: Red House
Format: CD with inserts and jewel case
    Country: USA
Label: Hal Leonard Publishing / Are You Experienced Ltd.
    Catalog Number: -
    Condition: Mint-

Synopsis: Jimi Hendrix came from the blues. As a young man on the
demanding Chitlin' circuit, Jimi began to explore his roots in the blues. He
became a student of the urban electric blues of Buddy Guy, Muddy
Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and John Lee Hooker; the acoustic Delta blues of
Robert Johnson, Son House, and Charlie Patton; and the blues-influenced
jazz of Charlie Christian and Wes Mongtomery.
As he got deeper into the blues, he began to open up the parameters of
the music and take it further and further out. From the beginning, "Red
House" was his blues-based anthem, which he performed, like a true
bluesman, differently each time. Though there are six Hendrix
performances of the song, astute listeners will note that each is an entirely
unique approach to the twelve bar form. For guitar players and non-playing
music fans alike, we are assembled this collection so they can learn from
the master. As you listen to version after version of "Red House", the
astounding talents of this ultimate blues man will reveal themselves to you.

JIMI HENDRIX - RED HOUSE 7 VERSIONS LIVE J L HOOKER
I've had this in my collection for a while. I used to play electric guitar and
enjoyed reading and learning about playing through guitar instructional
books, sheet music, and anything usual in that section of the music store.
I came across this CD almost 12 years ago. It is highly usual in that it was
published by a sheet music company, so it has no catalog number or UPC
code. However it collects 6 different live versions (official of course) of Jimi
Hendrix playing Red House, including an instudio rendition done by THE
    MAN, John Lee Hooker!

... also thought you should know that yours truly Doctor Noe aka Noe the G under his own Guitar Galaxy shingle did a historic interview with Roy Buchanan, Master of the Telecaster and it's on a DVD called Roy Buchanan Telly Talk.

Roy Buchanan was interviewed by Noe Gold
    and photographed by John Peden

PS, Bill Nitopi, who Stevie Ray Vaughan called "The Keeper of the Frame," Has this to say about our collaboration on these Guitar World Special Issues:
      Thanks Noe,
      Nice photos...
Yea, it's been 20 years since it came out... but we started working on that GW issue in Jan. 87.
Historic, no one has ever come close to that in any type of publication.
I still remember the look on the face of Dennis Page coming into your office upon realizing we spent almost $10.000 on photos for a single issue.
GW '88 is still looked upon by collectors as the greatest accumulation of Hendrix photos in a single magazine or book.
      Thanks again,
      Love ya,
      Bill

If only Jimi have survived, can you imagine what kind of music he
would be making now. Wow. He's was like a shooting star that
burned brightly, but went out too soon! God bless you Jimi!

Jimi, gone 40 years ago yesterday. What a wonderful contribution he made during his rocket ride down the deltas of Saturn.

    13. This photo was invited and added to the Left-handed Guitars and Basses group.

      ...

This story today on NPR talks about Linda Keith, Keith Richards' friend who introduced Jimi (Jimmy James at the time) to Chas at that Cafe Au Go Go gig ... www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId =129855398&a...

@Gib, yes, so true. We published a story "Jimi and the Monkees," Guitar World Special Collectors Edition March 1988 P. 35 in which the Monkees were Hendrix' biggest fans, coming down to watch his set before their own. Tork learned licks from Jimi (and even played bass with him and Buddy Miles at The Scene). Dolenz says this about his last meeting with Jimi: " ... I was surprised to see him in somewhat of a funk. He was not happy with the way his music had developed ... stultified ... He felt that what he was doing didn't have the substance that it had once had. I'm not sure he even realized how much substance it ever had.We were standing outside alone in a lobby and I felt a great deal of compassion for him. As he stood there, his eyes kind of drifted off, and I could see him trying to come to terms with some devil or something in his own head.. And he said, 'You know, I think I'm gonna start an r&b band. I gotta do something. I'm going to work with some horns and put together something llike Otis does, 'cause that's really where it's at.' I put my arm around him and said, 'Jimi, don't you understand, you invented psychedelic music. You *invented* it. Nobody ever played this before you came along. Why are you going through this crisis of self-confidence right now? And he didn't say anything, he didn't respond to that at all, but it was an extraordinary moment in my life and I thinkin his as well. He nodded kind of in agreement to that, but in a very humble way. And I went off to Amsterdam and got the call two days later that he was dead."

      +++++++++

Gib Robbie ‎(http://www.facebook.com/gib.robbie)@ Noe..Thanks for the fascinating detail here...I love background such as this--the Monkees connection is an obscure chapter from an incredible life/story...as time goes on-Jimi's legend only gets bigger.
