742 E. 142nd Street, Bronx New York. The Englert Family moved here when it was brand new. Florence Englert was born and lived here for 13 years. The whole block is now a parking lot next to the Bruckner Expressway. Nothing in this picture remains.

[Later...] Turns out this whole scene was obliterated earlier than I thought. This scene was the north side of the block occupied by "Old Lincoln Hospital," which was built only a few years after this picture was taken. From the link supplied by XXXjoeXXX below, "In 1895, after more than half a century of occupying various sites in Manhattan, the Board of Trustees purchased a large lot in the South Bronx—then a semi-rural area of the city—at the corner of 141st Street and Southern Boulevard." I have a feeling that the parking lot at the site now, which is on elevated land, sits on the demolished ruins of Old Lincoln Hospital. Better to have covered it with dirt than to have hauled the rubble away, I guess.

Thanks for that info! I never heard about that from Grandma, probably because the family moved out before then. Her mom died when Grandma was 10, which would have been in 1892. Then her dad remarried and started a new family elsewhere, I think in the Bronx, but not sure.
