2007_01_01_rosebowl_12.JPG![]() Here we get even more confused about what a "channel" means. "PBS" on top is the raw PBS feed, via satellite. But it says "065-00", which suggests channel 65 as a source. KUSI has been on Channel 51 (the "SI" maps against "51") since 1981. (It is owned by Channel 51 of San Diego.) But the signal I'm getting here is actually on Channel 18. KPMR is a UHF analog station on Channel 38. Its programming is Spanish, and its signal (as you can see from the pattern shown on that link) is beamed toward Santa Maria (to the north) and Santa Barbara (to the southeast). Which means almost nothing, because almost nobody in either locality uses an antenna for reception. They use cable or satellite. KTAS is a Spanish station in San Luis Obispo, with zero actual signal in Santa Barbara (thanks to a series of mountain ranges between here and there), but the FCC and Dish Network consider it "local" for Santa Barbara, so it makes the 50,000 mile round trip to our TV via satellite. XHJK is a Mexican station from Tijuana. According to Wikipedia, it's a repeater for XHDF from Mexico City. Its analog signal is on Channel 27, and its digital signal is on Channel 28. In any case, none of the local stations here in Santa Barbara has a working HD signal going over the air. [Next]
