Isn't it interesting how the moon often looks smaller in a photograph than in real life. This happened to me in this cameraphone shot of the cresent moon over a fort in Dubai: www.flickr.com/photos/96443330@N00/178386619/ . I thought afterwards "the moon seemed much bigger than that". I wonder is it because our visual processing emphasizes the moon in our perception.

In fact the apparent size of the moon varies with proximity to larger objects. When the moon is close to the horizon, it appears large, hile it appears smaller when high in the sky. More here.

In this case the shot is slightly blurred as well.
