Accept as Equal Grace and Disgrace Fortune and Misfortune Profit and Loss.

Accept as Equal Grace and Disgrace Fortune and Misfortune Profit and Loss. by LAO TZU-FALLING IN TAO.
13.How can Grace (Fortune ;what we value and hope13) and Disgrace (disaster; what we fear) be called equal ailments?
We have fears because we identify ourselves with a self (a body).
For were one without self (bodiless), what evil could befall him?
What do these two sentences mean?
How can " Grace and Disgrace be called equal worries”?
The first means that the care required to keep in favour, and the fear of losing it, fill the mind with worry.
[Why should we "welcome disgrace as a pleasant surprise"? Because a lowly state is a boon: Getting it is a pleasant surprise, And so is losing it! That is why we should "welcome disgrace as a pleasant surprise."]
What does it mean, to say That "rank, like self, Involves acute distress"?
I suffer most because Of me and selfishness.
If I were selfless, then What suffering would I bear?
Therefore value the world if it were your self
then you will be entrusted with the government of the world;
Love the whole world as if it were your self(see the world as yourself)
And then you will truly care for all things.
